Authentic Beauty

One evening this week, I was out in my yard playing with Winston, my dog. The sun was setting as I glanced at our lawn. These beautiful little white flowers covered the surface of the grass like snowdrops in summer. It looked magical, and to a child, that is precisely what they would see—a fairytale setting.

Yet, for adults, these white flowers are called weeds. We pick them and chemically treat them to achieve “perfection.”

We do this in many areas of our lives, not just on our lawns. Our body is one example. Wrinkles and grey hair used to be seen as wisdom, and now it is seen as a weed as a flaw that needs to be “fixed.”

I now see lawns with the little white flowers as something special and men and women gracefully aging like beautiful ones.

What was once so natural has become a rare diamond in our society.
