The Driver's Seat

Cars spiritually represent our personal power. It is the vehicle that we use to direct our life to the destination we want. It is said that if you have a dream with a car in it, pay attention to who is driving. Are you driving the car or are you letting someone else?
A few years ago, I had one of those aha moments when driving my actual car, not in a dream but on the road. I noticed that when I was driving, I tried to please the other cars around me. I didn't like to take up space and when in the “leading position” with a group of cars behind me I would get really nervous and uncomfortable. Some might say it is driving anxiety, which maybe it is, but wow did that speak volumes to how I “drive” my life.
The hard core truth is sometimes I do not like to take up space even though I know that I have every right to. It is hard for me. When in a leading position the “recovering people pleaser” wonders if others will approve? I have compassion for that little girl in me because for so long that was her only identity and the adult me works really hard to overcome those limiting beliefs. Who knew the way I was driving my car would mirror that to me? It really was symbolic of owning my power!
Pay attention to how you drive your car metaphorically or in real life. Do you have road rage and allow your anger to get the best of you so that everything you do feels like a burden? Do you multitask while driving and get into some really close calls because you have to do it all and have unrealistic expectations of yourself? Are you always rushing from one location to the next, not taking in the scenery, wishing life away for the next big thing when you could enjoy the moment you are in?
Maybe how we drive our cars really is a reflection of how we drive our life?
